The People’s Parish project is an initiative from TRACS (Traditional Arts Culture Scotland) supporting communities to shape and share the story of their place

2024-2025

Abbey Craig led the Arbroath and St Vigeans’ project, Sharing Stories of Arbroath.

THE PEOPLE'S PARISH AIMS

  • INVOLVE all of Scotland's 871 parishes

  • BRING TOGETHER local activists and organisations

  • ENCOURAGE participation in community life

  • INSPIRE new forms of mapping

  • GATHER and give voice to songs, stories, dances, traditions, visuals, histories and fictions

  • FACILITATE digital representation of local culture and access to it

  • CREATE a resource for generations to come

Sharing Stories brought communities and individuals together to celebrate our collective identity.

From an early-stage community survey, volunteers recognised how the sea has shaped Arbroath through time.

We co-created outcomes with local partnerships that reflect what we cherish and choose to nurture, whilst celebrating what is new and what might be.

15 projects ran between November 2024 -June 2025, including partnerships between local primary schools and 3rd sector groups.

450 participants gathered at the Webster Theatre in Arbroath to share what was created together.

We had a wonderful time working with Abbey and the folk at the Connections Group.
The class thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Webster Theatre gathering and loved seeing Abbey again.
